Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in Bologna attacking midfielder Lewis Ferguson, but Nottingham Forest are keen as well, HITC understands.

Sources have told HITC that Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the Premier League clubs who are keeping tabs on Lewis Ferguson.

Ferguson is starring for Bologna in Italy, and HITC understands that Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion have watched him this season.

There is also a genuine interest in the 24-year-old Scotland international attacking midfielder from Italian clubs AC Milan, Atalanta and Juventus, with all of them watching him closely.

Ferguson has been on the books of Bologna since the summer of 2022 when he joined from Aberdeen.

Rangers were linked with the Scotland international when he was at Aberdeen, but the Scottish Premiership giants did not sign him in the end.

The playmaker is flourishing at Bologna now and is one of the best players in his position in Serie A.

Ferguson has scored six goals and given three assists in 26 Serie A matches for Bologna this season.

Last season, the Scotsman made 27 starts and five substitute appearances in the league for Bologna. He scored seven goals in those games.

Bologna are fourth in the Serie A table at the moment with 51 points from 27 matches. They could end up in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Lewis Ferguson has been compared to John McGinn

Former Rangers and Scotland star Barry Ferguson is Lewis Ferguson’s uncle, and the pundit has previously compared the midfielder to John McGinn.

McGinn is one of Scotland’s best midfielders and has been a huge success at Aston Villa, who are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Barry Ferguson told Go Radio in September 2023: “I think Lewis is good enough to go and make that step. He has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer. His overall game has improved. You can see it with the coaching.

“You know what the Italians are like. I have played with Italians and they go on about how they are coached over there. His positional sense on the pitch is a lot better now than it was at Aberdeen. If he produces, similar to Hickey, then teams are going to look at him.

“I am disappointed that Rangers didn’t show any interest. I was surprised because I thought he was really good for Aberdeen. Sometimes he never played in his favoured position. He was more of a holding midfielder then.

“I like him further forward. Let him off the leash a little. A bit like John McGinn. Getting into people’s faces and getting into the box, then when he plays that position, he is a real threat – it frustrates me, at times, when a former club (Rangers) doesn’t look at guys like Lewis.”

Scott Brown played with Ferguson at Aberdeen, and the former Celtic star told Aberdeen Live in November 2023 that “he’s a great young lad, he wants to learn, he works hard, he has a great attitude and he lives and dies with football”.
