Luton Town are discussing a January deal for Japhet Tanganga with the Premier League’s forgotten man currently out on loan away from Tottenham Hotspur at Augsburg.
The Tottenham academy graduate was linked with a move to Kenilworth Road over the summer, before moving to the Bundesliga on a temporary basis. Now, with Japhet Tanganga struggling to make an impression over in Germany, Luton Town may now be tempted to pick up where they left off a few months ago.
According to the Daily Mail, The Hatters are weighing up another approach for a long-term transfer target. Tanganga, like LDU Quito starlet Oscar Zambrano (an Ecuadorian midfielder frequently compared to Moises Caicedo), is under consideration, but it remains to be seen if Luton decide to firm up their interest with other targets also on Rob Edwards’ radar.

Luton Town eye Tottenham raid
24-year-old Tanganga has not played a single minute of Bundesliga football for Augsburg, a knee injury limiting his impact. The Hackney-born defender would not be guaranteed a place in Luton’s starting XI either. Not with Teden Mengi, Gabe Osho and co impressing at the heart of Edwards’ backline, though much could depend on what the future holds for the club’s stricken captain Tom Lockyer.
Tottenham, meanwhile, appear unlikely to offer Tanganga a fresh start in North London. The Hackney-born defender, who nearly moved to Serie A over the summer, could yet fall even further down Ange Postecoglou’s pecking order as Spurs enter talks with Genoa for their £25 million-rated Romania international Radu Dragusin.
Spurs in Radu Dragusin discussions
“I don’t know if I can say that the transfer is imminent, but there is a lot of interest. I had a discussion with Tottenham. They told me they were interested in him,” Florin Manea, the agent of the ponytailed powerhouse, told Digi Sport in December.
“There are a few more clubs from Germany, a few from the Premier League. I believe that, if something can be achieved, it will be in the Premier League.”
