Michael Owen says Liverpool’s transfer pursuit of Moises Caicedo has been ‘fascinating’, as he acknowledged that the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder is about to join Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
The former England striker was critical of how Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have gone about trying to sign the 21-year-old this summer and how they have ‘now shown their hand’ when they push to sign other players.
Usually, managers refuse to speak about opposition players when asked if they are in talks to sign them, but Jurgen Klopp was pretty open about Moises Caicedo recently, which Owen now thinks is a mistake, as he told Premier League Productions (13/08/23 at 1:35 pm).
It has been suggested that Liverpool put down a club-record and British record transfer fee of over £115 million for the ‘quite rare’ player, but instead, he ‘snubbed’ the Merseyside giants and is now heading to Stamford Bridge, as reported by Sky Sports.
Then there is Romeo Lavia, the Southampton teenager they have been chasing all summer, several bids were rejected, which left Jamie Carragher frustrated by the club’s technique
All in all, after Fabinho and Jordan Henderson left, things aren’t going too well in the transfer market for Klopp, with Owen sharing his thoughts.

“Fascinating,” said Owen. “They have now shown their hand. They have shown that they have got £111 million in the bank ready to buy a player.
“So, they are going to get taken for a ride when they do eventually buy a midfield player.
“It’s very unlike Liverpool to come out in the public and say ‘yeah, we have agreed a fee’, without it being across the line. It does seem now that Caicedo has his heart set on Chelsea.
“I think Liverpool have to go back in the transfer market, with this big kitty that everybody knows that they have got, and then try to find someone. There are very few top players about.”

Transfer prices for midfield players going crazy
It seems as though near-on every Premier League midfielder is now worth close to £100 million or more – Lucas Paqueta could head to Manchester City for a huge amount.
That’s the ridiculous nature of how crazy and inflated the market has become as it shows no signs of stopping.
The Premier League is to blame because of the stupid money teams have, how they panic and the fact that they set the tone by putting down that stupid money for these players.
