Frank Leboeuf has given his backing to Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea possibly signing Aston Villa transfer target Tyler Adams from Championship side Leeds United.

The former Chelsea defender labelled Tyler Adams as a ‘warrior’ and a player that would ‘suit very well in any system’, as he told ESPN.

The Leeds United midfielder is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa waiting for a response on what the USMNT captain plans to do this summer.

As of this moment, Adams is returning back from injury, after he missed the final few months of Leeds’ disastrous relegation to the Championship.

A player of Adams’ ilk is too good to be playing second-tier football and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is in the colours of a Chelsea, Villa, or even Liverpool by September.

Nonetheless, after losing several midfield players this summer, Chelsea, who won’t be playing European football next term, are in need of strengthening in the middle and Leboeuf is a big fan of this possible transfer.

“Yes, it does make sense because Chelsea need to fill up the middle of the park,” said Leboeuf. “Right now, you have Fernandez, Gallagher and we are still waiting on Caicedo, whether he is going to sign or not.

“Tyler Adams is starting to have a very good experience. He is the captain of the United States. Tyler Adams has the character that I love. He’s a warrior and we need that kind of player in the middle of the park.

“Yes, he’s not the player that can fill up Chelsea, a big, big club, because he comes from Leeds. But I love those kind of players. I love his temper. His character. He’s a guy that is going to suit very well to any system.”

Adams is a Champions League quality player

The American international, who is only 24, is worthy of making a step up to a team in the Champions League, but as of this moment, from the interested parties, only Liverpool and Villa can provide him with European football.

Of course, both Liverpool and Chelsea, whether they do it or not, will be pushing for the Premier League title against the might of Manchester City, so that might prove to be very appealing.

But, either way, he needs to be playing Premier League football next term and either of the above clubs would take his game to higher levels because Pochettino, Unai Emery and Jurgen Klopp are high-class individuals.
