Chelsea’s new star Christopher Nkunku was delighted to see his former RB Leipzig teammate Dominik Szoboszlai land in the Premier League after his transfer to Liverpool was confirmed on Sunday.

Liverpool announced on their website that they had signed Dominik Szoboszlai from the German club on a five-year deal after meeting the release clause in his contract.

Watching on from afar, Christopher Nkunku wrote on his Instagram story ‘let’s go’ as the news came in about the Hungarian captain.

After playing side by side for many years in the Bundesliga, the two will now be rivals as Liverpool and Chelsea aim to make a return to the Champions League next season.

Both teams had many struggles last season, with Jurgen Klopp’s side securing a fifth place and a Europa League finish.

But it was far worse for Chelsea, who went through three managers, spent well over £500 million over two transfer windows, yet somehow mustered a bottom-half finish in the Premier League.

Can Szoboszlai hit the ground running?

Given Liverpool’s struggles in the middle of the park last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Szoboszlai is starting straightaway for Jurgen Klopp.

It has already been suggested that he will be ahead of three players at Anfield, with the Reds making the trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

There is every chance that Szoboszlai and Nkunku don’t just feature on either side, but start for their new respective clubs.

Both sets of fans should be excited by what their new stars could produce, with Nkunku labelled a better transfer than Szoboszlai, whilst Liverpool’s new boy himself has previously been dubbed ‘special’ by Jesse Marsch.
