Jay Bothroyd has said that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should sell Granit Xhaka in the summer transfer window and replace him with Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
The former Arsenal academy player has told FourFourTwo that Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister could take the place of Granit Xhaka in the Gunners’ starting lineup.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bayer Leverkusen are on the verge of signing Swiss midfielder Xhaka from Arsenal.
Argentina journalist Cesar Luis Merlo reported in April that Arsenal are among the clubs who are keen on securing the services of Mac Allister.
However, recent rumours suggest that Liverpool are leading the race for the 24-year-old Argentina international midfielder.
Bothroyd said: “I think [Granit] Xhaka – he’s in his 30s, he wants a longer-term contract and I’m not sure he’d get that at Arsenal.”
The pundit added: “Then I would go with [Alexis] Mac Allister from Brighton as well. He’s a fantastic player, he can play in that Xhaka position in off the left… and he’s someone I can see help Arsenal going forward.”

Alexis Mac Allister a potential upgrade on Granit Xhaka at Arsenal
In our view, Alexis Mac Allister would be a very good signing for Arsenal and would be an upgrade on Granit Xhaka.
While Xhaka has done well for Arsenal, especially this season, Mac Allister is much younger than the Swiss and has huge potential.
After all, the 24-year-old midfielder helped Argentina win the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
