Darren Bent has shared his thoughts on England striker Harry Kane possibly securing a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Chelsea in the summer and re-uniting with Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.
The former Tottenham striker thinks if Harry Kane agreed to a transfer to Chelsea, then he will ‘never’ be welcomed back by his fans from north London, as he told Premier League Productions (15/05/23 at 2:55 pm).
This despite the 29-year-old building a ‘legacy’ at Tottenham and also becoming their all-time leading scorer – surpassing the great legendary figure, Jimmy Greaves.
What increases the chances of Kane moving to Stamford Bridge is the soon-to-be appointment of Mauricio Pochettino – Fabrizio Romano broke the news Spurs fans were dreading over the weekend.
Watching Mauricio Pochettino don the Chelsea colours is going to be hard enough to watch for those fans, but for Kane to join him would just take them over the edge.
There is already frustration and anger hovering above Hotspur Way, and as Bent explained, such a move by Kane just won’t be forgiven.
“That decision would come down to Harry Kane,” said Bent. “I think Chelsea would be prepared wherever they can to get him.
“Then, it’s the whole legacy question. I believe Harry Kane’s legacy at Spurs is set in stone. He is their all-time record goalscorer.
“But once he makes that divide, no matter what he has done, he will never be welcomed back.”
SHOULD KANE JOIN POCHETTINO AT CHELSEA?
From Chelsea’s perspective, after spending hundreds and hundreds of millions, they still need that out-and-out number nine.
And whether Spurs fans like it or not, their £200k-a-week star (Spotrac) fits the bill perfectly.
So, if Todd Boehly has been willing to spend over £500 million since taking over, then he shouldn’t hesitate in bringing Kane through the club’s doors, regardless of how controversial it would be because it can transform them into title challengers next season.
