Stevie Nicol has backed ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter to become Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager after the decision over Julian Nagelsmann.
Many Spurs fans wanted the ex-Bayern Munich coach to be their next manager, but it has now been widely reported that won’t be the case.
As a result, Liverpool legend Stevie Nicol thinks if Spurs turn to Graham Potter, then it would be a ‘smart move’ from those in north Lonon.

As Fabrizio Romano delivered more bad news for Tottenham after their 2-1 defeat to European rivals Aston Villa on Saturday, the last thing their fans probably want is another ex-Chelsea manager in their dugout.
At least Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho won titles at Stamford Bridge, for Potter, it was a spell of pure disaster for the 47-year-old.
That job was referenced by Nicol, but he thinks the former Brighton man wasn’t given a fair chance in West London, as he told ESPN.
“Graham Potter, is it too soon after Chelsea or actually would that just be a smart move,” questioned Nicol. “He was never really given a chance at Chelsea. He wasn’t given an opportunity to do well at Chelsea.
“So, if you want to erase Potter and Chelsea out of his CV, then I guess the answer is Potter.”

POTTER WAS MORE SUITED TO SPURS THAN CONTE
It’s understandable that Spurs fans will now be put off by Potter because of what happened at Chelsea this season, even though they have become even worse since he was sacked in April.
But, it can’t be denied that, before Antonio Conte was appointed Spurs manager, it was Potter that they needed to bring in, not the outspoken Italian.
Not only would Potter have brought in the progressive style of play, but that task to punch above Tottenham’s weight would have also suited the club under him than the more-demanding Conte.
