A report has emerged that Tottenham Hotspur are set to open talks with Xabi Alonso over becoming their next manager.

A claim was made on Wednesday that the former Spanish midfielder was Spurs’ No.1 target to take the job in N17.

As the rumours surrounding Xabi Alonso, branded as the ‘next superstar manager’ by Euro Football Daily becoming the next Tottenham Hotspur manager accelerate, it seems talks could now be held.

Xabi Alonso set for Tottenham manager talks

It seems like the Bayer Leverkusen boss was always expected to become a top coach, with Jose Mourinho tipping him to make waves in the managerial world even before his career began.

So much so that a report on Thursday claimed that the ex-Liverpool lynchpin is Real Madrid’s primary choice to replace Carlo Ancelotti, who could manage the Brazilian national team in the summer.

Now, a report in the Evening Standard has indeed mentioned that Tottenham have planned to initiate talks with Xabi Alonso over becoming their next manager.

Daniel Levy is expected to lead the process, as the club are now ready to ensure that a replacement for Antonio Conte is brought in.

HITC View: Xabi Alonso could be a Vincent Kompany-eque appointment

While the world is aware of how talented a coach Vincent Kompany is and the magnitude of the job he has done at Burnley, a lack of experience has been cited as a reason against his potential appointment as Spurs boss.

The same goes for Xabi Alonso, because as brilliant of a coaching job as he has done at Leverkusen, taking over the Tottenham manager job as things stand is a risk for all parties involved.

The Lilywhites are a mess from top to bottom and have been associated with chronic failure for years on end.

For a manager to overturn their fortunes on the pitch through his tactics, thrive within the confines of a limited budget and overhaul the squad are tasks that are even challenges for seasoned coaches, let alone Alonso, who has only managed one club at senior level.
