Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have reacted to claims that Frank Lampard could return to Chelsea and Martin O’Neill could become Leicester City manager again.
Both clubs sacked their managers recently, with Brendan Rodgers getting booted out by the Foxes and Chelsea following suit hours later by parting ways with Graham Potter.
With less than ten games of the Premier League season remaining, there are now claims that Frank Lampard, who was sacked by Everton this season, could return to the dugout at Chelsea as an interim until the end of the campaign – he was recently overlooked by the likes of Crystal Palace and Southampton.

Added to that, Leicester City are considering Martin O’Neill as a caretaker until the end of the campaign, according to the Independent – 13 years after the Irishman managed the club.
All in all, it’s another example of this crazy Premier League season writing another Hollywood-worthy script – and it could still get further out of hand after Nottingham Forest boss, Steve Cooper, was also threatened with the sack.
Nonetheless, given the noise coming out of Chelsea and Leicester, this is what both Alan Shearer and Ian Wright had to say about it all, as they told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (05/04/23 at 11:05 pm).
“That’s typical Chelsea isn’t it,” said Shearer. “For the football club to have sacked him a couple of years ago. I know it was a different owner.
“But for a new owner to come in and do what he has done and spend that ridiculous amount of money on so many players, which makes it so difficult for the manager, then sack the manager he appointed.”
Wright added: “He (Lampard) will be hoping to show people that he still has what it takes, but it is strange. We saw with Palace bringing Roy Hodgson back. With Leicester, I am hearing Martin O’Neil might be coming back. I don’t know, maybe it’s bringing the old guys back to save them. I don’t know what’s going on, at the moment.”
Shearer then continued: “From Frank’s point of view, I think it’s a no-brainer. I think he wouldn’t have had to think about it, for that long because, at the highest level, he is probably going to struggle to get back in. But they are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, you just never know. It’s been done before at Chelsea.”

FOOTBALL CLUBS PANIC
There have been 13 manager sackings this season – a record for the Premier League – and more could still follow.
This is pure panic by owners, who are either worried about losing their Premier League status, missing out on Champions League football, or because there is just pure chaos inside their four walls.
All in all, it’s further proof that the tenure of managers is getting shorter and shorter.
