Jamie Redknapp says managers must go into Tottenham Hotspur thinking ‘this is a great laugh’ after Daniel Levy’s big decision to sack Antonio Conte, added to the rise of their rivals, Arsenal.
The former Tottenham midfielder used Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal as an example and how you can see a ‘real plan’, but their rivals are doing things in a ‘very chaotic’ manner.
After Tottenham’s 3-3 draw to Southampton before the international break, Antonio Conte went on a verbal tirade and called out near-on everything that is wrong with the club.
Not only did the Champions League-chasing side let a 3-1 lead slip to the team sitting bottom of the Premier League table, but their recent form has also been a cause for concern.
Within the space of a few weeks, Spurs were booted out of the FA Cup by a weakened Sheffield United side pushing for promotion from the Championship, before they offered zero fight against AC Milan and were sent packing in the Champions League.
Now fast forward to the present and Tottenham are seemingly back to square one, with Redknapp using Arsenal as an example when being critical of his former club, as he told Sky Sports News.
“The culture of the club doesn’t seem to be right, in terms of being a winning mentality,” said Redknapp. “Even if you are a manager, you might think ‘why would I come there?’
“The only good thing as a manager is that you come in, you get sacked and then you get paid. All the managers must think ‘this is a great laugh coming to Tottenham’. But it shouldn’t really be the case. You should be building something really special.
“Unfortunately for Tottenham fans is what’s happening over the road at Arsenal. Where you can see a real plan and a real direction, whereas, at Tottenham, it feels very chaotic right now.”
THINGS COULD GET WORSE
This isn’t over yet, and with Cristian Stellini now running the Spurs ship, this could yet get worse for Tottenham.
Not only could they end up having to watch Arsenal win the Premier League title for the first time in nearly two decades, but they could also miss out on Champions League football, altogether.
That would just end a disastrous season for the club, and in truth, it would just see Daniel Levy come under more pressure – Tim Sherwood has already come out and blasted the Spurs chairman.
