After Arsenal were eliminated out of the Europa League by Sporting CP, Takehiro Tomiyasu was spotted in crutches after the game.

The £55,192-a-week man was substituted as early as in the 9th minute for Ben White after suffering an injury against Ruben Amorim’s side. Considering Mikel Arteta’s side still have 11 games to go in the Premier League, this may be a worry if the Englishman picks up an injury as well.

But unfortunately for Arsenal after their defeat to Sporting CP, they suffered a double-whammy, with Takehiro Tomiyasu also seen walking in crutches.

While the Japanese international has mostly been a rotational option this season, the presence of high-quality squad players like him is crucial in title races. As a result, it was no surprise seeing the club’s fanbase sweat over his injury as other absences could make their right-back situation a concern.

But the Evening Standard’s Simon Collins tweeted out a picture of Takehiro Tomiyasu walking in crutches after Arsenal lost to Sporting CP on penalties. For all practical purposes, the ex-Bologna colossus’ campaign may have come to an end and it is likely that he has picked up a long-term injury.

Elimination from all cup competitions may be an advantage for Arsenal

Despite the ‘fantastic’ Takehiro Tomiyasu having had to be in crutches due to the painful knock he picked up, Arsenal crashed out of all available cup competitions on Thursday after losing to Sporting CP.

With Mikel Arteta and Co. now fully focused on winning the Premier League title and having to play one game-a-week till the end of the campaign, this reduces the chances of key players getting injuries.

As long as a fit and firing Ben White passes that white line week in, week out, Arsenal fans need not worry.
