Gary Neville has said that he thought the Premier League title race was over and done with after Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
In fact, many felt the same as they foresaw Pep Guardiola’s side going on their signature winning streak until the end of the season. However, as fate would have it, City ended up dropping points away from home to Nottingham Forest, while Mikel Arteta’s side ground out two hard-fought victories against Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Now, Gary Neville has given his honest verdict on the Premier League title race being done
Gary Neville says he thought the title race was over after Arsenal vs Manchester City
In the latest episode of The Overlap, Gary Neville made his title confession about Arsenal after they lost to Manchester City, saying, “I’ll confess Robbie [Lyle from AFTV], when I watched [Manchester] City beat you on that Wednesday night, honestly, I thought you were done [in the title race]. Honestly. They got level with you, I thought at that point, 16 games to go at that point, a mountain of games, I just thought they’re going to just drive on and drive on.”
“You’re doing what you did against Aston Villa, City obviously dropping points against Forest. I think even to be now where you are, I have to say has surprised me a bit.”

“I thought you’d struggled to come back. I thought the two games after that [Aston Villa and Leicester], you could end up dropping points.”
Arsenal are the real deal
It really is as simple as that.
While Gary Neville may have certain understandable reasons to favour Manchester City over Arsenal in a title race, such as their inexperience, perhaps even favoring other teams or their lack of squad depth before their January signings, the latter have shown that they have the minerals to go all the way.
With the Sky Blues still having slight issues in both defence and attack, it was telling that they dropped points to Forest straightaway after beating the league leaders, who put in the performance of champions against Aston Villa.
