Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Man City have been keeping an eye on Chelsea left-back, Ben Chilwell for a number of years.

The £50 million (Sky Sports) man was linked with a deadline day move to Pep Guardiola’s side, who were in need of a replacement for Joao Cancelo, who was loaned out to Bayern Munich out of the blue.

While some may scratch their heads about why Man City seem so keen on signing the ‘high level’ Ben Chilwell, it seems, at least as per Fabrizio Romano as if this is not a new development in the slightest.

Fabrizio Romano says Man City have wanted Chilwell for years

The Sky Blues could certainly do with any brand-new addition to bolster the position, as while Nathan Ake has done a brilliant defensive job in the position, he lacks the attacking quality needed to play in the role.

It seems Man City could make a move for Chelsea defender, Ben Chilwell, as per Fabrizio Romano, who Paul Merson ‘likes’, “Ben Chilwell is one of the players who has been appreciated by Man City for years. He’s one of the left-backs to consider, but I’m told not the only one.”

“They have a shortlist of players in that position and will decide how to proceed together with Pep [Guardiola] in May or June”, the Italian journalist told Caught Offside.

Signing Chilwell would be a risk

Well, if it’s coming from Fabrizio Romano, one can take his word that Man City have always been fans of Ben Chilwell, who was deemed ‘very important’ by Thomas Tuchel via Chelsea Transfer Room.

However, the risk with signing the England international remains his injury record, as he has missed a staggering 53 games due to knocks just in the past two seasons, which would be a major concern for City, despite his quality.
