According to a new report by the Daily Mail, contract talks between Chelsea and Mason Mount, who has been linked with a switch to Liverpool have stopped for the time being.
The Guardian had reported a month ago that Jurgen Klopp’s side were eyeing a surprise move for the England international, whose current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2024.
Ultimately, the fact that contract talks between Mason Mount and Chelsea have halted is welcome news for Liverpool, who are in desperate need of a brand-new midfielder, who Steven Gerrard once said he is a ‘massive fan’ of.
Contract talks between Chelsea & Liverpool target Mason Mount have stopped
The Reds’ midfield has been in shambles this campaign, with several underperformers such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and James Milner in particular failing to cover themselves in glory.
As a result, Liverpool fans will be delighted to read the Daily Mail’s report which suggests that contract talks between Chelsea and Mason Mount have ‘halted’ for the time being.

This is because the Englishman rejected the club’s latest proposal, as he aims to triple his wages from the current £80,000-a-week he is taking home. The 24-year-old believes that he should be earning as much as other senior players and new signings, while the offer on the table is much lesser than he would liked ideally.
However, it does not seem set at this point that Liverpool will sign the ‘phenomenal’ Mason Mount just because his contract talks have not gone well, as it is expected that Chelsea will resume these conversations soon.
However, the player is reportedly ‘unsure’ about his status in West London, especially with the big-money arrivals of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk.
From a Liverpool perspective, the club will hope that Champions League winner, who Kalvin Phillips called a ‘superstar’ in 2021 and Chelsea cannot find a middle ground in their contract talks, and he is available to sign in the summer.
