Arsenal and Newcastle have now received a boost in their pursuit of Leandro Trossard after his agent released a statement.
What’s the story?
Well, it was Alex Crook of talkSPORT who revealed that Mikel Arteta would like to sign the Belgium international.
Elsewhere, it was transfer specialist Dean Jones who claimed that Trossard is likely to join Newcastle.
Now, there have been some significant developments.
Firstly, Roberto De Zerbi told the media on Friday afternoon that Trossard would not be in the squad to face Liverpool as he does not like the 28-year-old’s attitude in training.
The Belgian – who cost Brighton £15m – was said to have walked out of training after being told he would not play against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
Respected journalist Graeme Bailey added that Brighton are shocked at their No.11’s behaviour.
Now, Josy Comhair – Trossard’s agent – has released a statement, which actually mentions that De Zerbi has told his client to find a new club with a transfer now “the best solution” for all parties.
You can see Comhair’s statement in full above, in which he adds that the Italian has barely spoken to Trossard, and also “humiliated” him in front of the Brighton first-team.
Trossard should choose Newcastle over Arsenal
In our view, Trossard would be better off at Newcastle than Arsenal.
Under Arteta, there is too much attacking talent to compete with, and the imminent arrival of Mykhaylo Mudryk is only going to make competition more intense at the Emirates Stadium.

However, at Newcastle, Eddie Howe could certainly do with some upgrades on Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy as he aims to pad out his squad, with European football likely to return to Tyneside from next season.
Trossard is also capable of playing as a left wing-back, which is another area Howe could use him, whereas Arteta already has two quality options in Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney in that department.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we can’t see Trossard staying at Brighton for much longer.
