Is Alexis Mac Allister English? A number of people have asked this after the Arsenal and Tottenham target shone for Argentina at the World Cup.

The Brighton and Hove Albion No.10 is a player currently being heavily discussed among plenty of football fans, with most asking where he originates from as a result of his British sounding surname.

So, is Alexis Mac Allister English? Let’s take a look…

Is Alexis Mac Allister English?

Many have asked this on Google, and while he does have some British heritage, Mac Allister has no English roots.

In fact, the World Cup winner’s family name originates from Ireland.

Carlos Mac Allister – the Argentina international’s father, who shared a pitch with Diego Maradona at Boca Juniors – spoke to The Athletic in 2020 about his family background.

He said: “According to our family, we came from Ireland, rather than Scotland. We came to Argentina, to a place called Pergamino, but that was three or four generations ago. I don’t know whether the ones before them were from Scotland, and went to Ireland from Scotland, and then our ancestors came here. But we say that we came from Ireland.”

Carlos Mac Allister fuelled talk of Scottish origins as a result of his flame red hair during the Boca Juniors days.

However, as he states, the Mac Allister family name is believed to originate from Ireland, so Alexis Mac Allister has no English in him whatsoever.
