Celtic are set to receive millions as Real Madrid join Manchester United and Erik ten Hag in the race to sign Jeremie Frimpong.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany who revealed that Manchester United are set to hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for the Netherlands international after the World Cup.

However, according to Defensa Central in Spain, Real Madrid are now leading the race to sign Frimpong, as Xabi Alonso – who used to play for the Spanish giants – currently manages the Bundesliga side.

Defensa Central also mention that Manchester United are interested, while it is also said that Juventus are keen on the 21-year-old, who the Spanish news outlet believe has a value of €25m (£21m).

Now, in regards to Celtic making millions, Football Scotland believe the Bhoys included a “significant” sell-on clause in the deal when selling Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen back in January 2021.

Therefore, Ange Postecoglou could see his transfer budget bolstered if the Dutchman does end up joining Real Madrid, Manchester United or Juventus for £21m.

Defensa Central believe Real Madrid have given up hope of signing Reece James from Chelsea, hence why they are now plotting a move for Frimpong.

The right-back has taken his game to new heights this season, making a real impact in the attacking third with five goals and three assists in 21 appearances.

Celtic will hope for Real Madrid & Manchester United bidding war

The best possible scenario for Celtic is that Real Madrid and Manchester United end up in a bidding war for Frimpong.

It goes without saying that Celtic will receive added funds from the deal if more money is involved, as they hold a significant sell-on clause.

The chances of such a bidding war taking place would increase if Louis van Gaal starts to use Frimpong at the World Cup – he is yet to make an appearance in Qatar.

Hopefully, Frimpong is given a chance to shine in the Round of 16 – if he does, then Celtic could end up receiving a large chunk of a £30m-plus deal, but only time will tell for sure.
