Tottenham face Marseille inside the Stade Vélodrome tonight, in what is a crucial Champions League clash for the north Londoners.

The heartbreaking VAR decision to disallow Harry Kane’s late winner against Sporting Lisbon has left Spurs needing a win in France to be sure of their place in the Round of 16, although a draw will be enough if other results go their way.

Antonio Conte will hope to see his Tottenham side come into this clash buoyed by the 3-2 comeback win over Bournemouth on Saturday, although his preparations for the game have not got off to the best start.

Tottenham disrupted in France

Well, supporters have been known to target the opponent’s hotel on the eve of a big game, and that is exactly what has happened in Marseille.

According to Paul Gilmour of Sky Sports, there were multiple and prolonged firework displays throughout the night close to Tottenham’s hotel, which awakened several players in the early hours.

Gilmour believes some of the Spurs squad woke up around 1:30am due to the noise, while others saw their slumber disturbed at 4:30am – Conte will surely be furious.

The Italian places plenty of focus on treating the body right, as seen when he banned ketchup immediately after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, so he surely won’t be happy to see his players have their rest ruined.

What could happen to Tottenham tonight?

Amazingly, Spurs could actually end the night third in Group D – despite currently sitting at the top of it.

Tottenham can win the group if they manage a draw in Marseille, as long as Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt also play out a draw of their own.

However, victory for Marseille, and a win for either Sporting Lisbon or Eintracht Frankfurt, would push Spurs down into third and leave them in the Europa League.

If the worst case scenario does happen, and the north Londoners drop into the Europa League, many in N17 will be left thinking about that cruel ending against Sporting Lisbon last week – it could prove to be a pivotal moment.
