According to iNews, Tottenham actually helped Everton beat West Ham to the £33m signing of Amadou Onana.
What’s the story?
Well, the report states that Tottenham paid £50m upfront for Richarlison, which helped the Toffees significantly with their finances and allowed them to make signings this summer.
Usually, these deals are structured in instalments, and it is rare for such a huge sum to be paid upfront.
Spurs injecting those funds into the Toffees ensured Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell were able to make Onana a better contract offer than West Ham could, which ultimately proved vital as both sides had bids accepted by Lille.
Given the bitter rivalry between Tottenham and West Ham, Spurs fans will surely be delighted to hear that their side played a part in the Hammers missing out on a prime target.
The Richarlison money also helped Everton sign Dwight McNeil for £20m – another player David Moyes wanted.
Lampard and Thelwell have recruited smartly this summer, as Conor Coady has also arrived at Goodison Park, while a deal for Idrissa Gueye is close to completion.
After the £8.4m move is announced, the Toffees will then look to sign a new striker – talks with Chelsea are said to be ongoing over a deal for Armando Broja.
West Ham, Tottenham & Everton can all be satisfied

In our view, the Premier League trio have all done some fantastic business this summer.
West Ham have got their hands on one of the most exciting young strikers around in Gianluca Scamacca, while the additions of Flynn Downes, Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola and Maxwel Cornet are also great deals.
In Tottenham’s case, they did their work early, making some shrewd moves in signing Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and Fraser Forster.
As aforesaid, Everton have also been clever with deals for Coady, Onana, McNeil and Gueye.
Hopefully, these new additions can gel quickly, and take the Premier League by storm.
