Everton want Amadou Onana
On Wednesday, it looked like Lille midfielder Amadou Onana would be signing for West Ham United.
Reports in France suggested that Lille were preparing for Onana’s exit, with a €40million (£33.5million) deal accepted by the Ligue 1 side.
West Ham have been left rocked though, because Everton have suddenly attempted to hijack Onana’s move to East London.
The Daily Mail report that Everton have matched West Ham’s offer – and Onana actually prefers a move to Goodison Park.
It’s stated that Onana wants to work under Frank Lampard and Everton are offering better personal terms than West Ham.
Lampard is one of the greatest midfielders of all time and Onana may feel that the former Chelsea hero can take his game to another line.
It still feels like a surprise to see Onana fancy Everton over West Ham though.
West Ham were in the Europa League semi-finals last season and are really trying to push towards the top six.
Everton narrowly escaped relegation and the current expectations are that the Toffees will have another fight on their hands this season.
Onana is a huge talent in more ways than one; he has the potential to become a star and also stands at a gigantic 6ft 5in tall.
The Belgian international only joined Lille from Hamburg last summer but made a massive impact in Ligue 1.
West Ham thought they had finally landed their man after weeks of bids and talks, but it now looks like Everton are in the box seat for a stunning deal.
