French outlet Le10Sport claim that Glasgow Rangers are one of a number of clubs to have made an offer to sign St. Etienne attacker Denis Bouanga, but the Ibrox club did not meet the Ligue 2 side’s £4.2million asking price.

Rangers have already made seven additions, spending much of the £19.5m initial fee paid by Ajax for Calvin Bassey. The Gers have spent the best part of £15million, on Ridvan Yilmaz, Antonio Colak, Rabbi Matondo and Ben Davies.

Tom Lawrence and John Souttar have joined the club on free transfers from Derby County and Hearts. Malik Tillman, who has impressed in his first two outings, has completed a loan move to Rangers from Bayern Munich.

But they are unlikely to be done, especially judging by Tuesday’s defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise. Another winger could be on the agenda and Gabon international Bouanga has emerged as a possible target for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Indeed, the Gers have made a bid. However, St. Etienne have rejected it – requesting £4.2million. It is the same story for Belgian duo Anderlecht and Club Brugge. La Galaxy have made the biggest offer, worth only £3million.

Rangers offer for Bouanga: Did not meet St. Etienne asking price

Bouanga would be a sensational signing. The 32-capped attacker is far better than £4.2million, proving as such during his years in France’s top tier. Clocking up 135 Ligue 1 outings, he has scored 35 goals, and laid on 16 assists.

That, and his versatility. Like Lawrence, he is able to play on either flank or as a striker. With Alfredo Morelos still not back in action and Colak failing to score in his first two games, “incredible” Bouanga might be brought in.
