According to Christian Falk, RB Leipzig are trying to get Josko Gvardiol tied down to a new contract amid interest from Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in signing the 20-year-old.

In fact, Chelsea plan to offer Timo Werner to RB Leipzig as they attempt to negotiate a deal for Gvardiol.

It comes after Tottenham were told to pay £60m if they want to sign the Croatia international.

Now, RB Leipzig are attempting to make life even harder for the Premier League trio in their pursuit of Gvardiol, as Falk believes the Bundesliga side are trying to get him to sign a new contract.

Interestingly, the BILD journalist adds that any new deal would include a release clause.

Falk also states that Manchester City made a bid for Gvardiol, which was rejected by RB Leipzig.

It comes after Pep Guardiola lost Aymeric Laporte to a knee injury until September.

Interest in Gvardiol comes after he made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals while also providing three assists.

In our view, Fabio Paratici should explore other options.

£60m for a 20-year-old represents a huge risk for Tottenham in their hunt for a new centre-back, and it is a deal which could easily backfire, despite Gvardiol’s talent.

Furthermore, the price could go even higher with Manchester City and Chelsea – two financial titans – involved in the bidding.

If Tottenham pursued the deal, we fear they would be wasting their time, especially with other options out there who Antonio Conte would be more trusting of.

For example, the Italian could sign Alessandro Bastoni or Milan Skriniar, both of whom helped him win the Serie A title with Inter Milan in 2021 – interestingly, Spurs have both on their shortlist.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we expect Tottenham to sign another centre-back this summer.
