Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Pau Torres amid a flurry of Premier League interest.

The Spanish defender has long been linked with a move to England, with both Tottenham and Manchester United strongly linked, but according to Bailey, Manchester City are now keen on the Villarreal defender.

Nathan Ake is seemingly on his way out of the Etihad, and City will need a replacement – that’s where Torres comes into the equation.

What’s been said?

Bailey spoke about Torres.

“The name Pau Torres is coming up again, the left-sided centre-half. He’s always the bridesmaid this boy. Whoever gets him will get a fantastic signing. Tottenham have looked, Chelsea are looking, Manchester United have him at the top of their scouting list, but unfortunately Erik ten Hag isn’t using it, so yeah, I think he’d fit in beautifully at City, I think he’d be a Rolls Royce there,” Bailey said.

Interesting move

A move to Manchester City would be a very interesting one for Torres.

As a fantastic ball-player, he’d be well-suited to Pep Guardiola’s side, while playing in such a dominant team would mask some of his physical deficiencies.

While he could thrive in Guardiola’s system, we have to wonder just how much football he will be playing if he moved to the Etihad.

John Stones, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte are all potentially going to be ahead of him in the pecking order, and if he acts as Ake’s replacement, he may not play that much football.

This move would probably bring Torres lots of success and financial benefits, but in terms of his career, there may be better options out there.
