Tottenham have made a new offer for Pau Torres in the hope of finally bringing the Villarreal defender to North London after his 2021 snub.
Tottenham were set on signing a defender last summer and ended up landing Cristian Romero on loan from Atalanta with a view to a permanent move.
Fabio Paratici did look towards various other defenders though and one of them was Villarreal star Torres.
Reports from Spain suggested that Tottenham did have an agreement to sign Torres but he rejected the move.
Torres has since admitted that, whilst he could have earned a ‘lot of money’ at Tottenham, he wanted to play in the Champions League for his boyhood club.
Villarreal reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, so you have to say that Torres was justified in his decision.
Torres is a hero at Villarreal and has been branded ‘extraordinary’ by Jose Benlloch, the mayor of Villarreal.
Tottenham have made a new offer for Pau Torres
Spanish source Cadena SER report that Tottenham have now made a new bid for Torres.
It’s stated that Tottenham have initiated contact with the defender’s representatives and have now put €50million (£42.5million) on the table.
The problem for Tottenham is that Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also understood to have spoken to Torres’ representatives.
It’s even added that Torres prefers a move to Manchester United if he is to leave Villarreal this summer.

United have matched Tottenham’s offer and his representatives could travel to England in the coming days for talks with the Red Devils.
Left-footed defenders have been vital to Erik ten Hag’s approach with Daley Blind and Lisandro Martinez particularly shining.
Tottenham may have wanted Torres to feature as a left-sided centre back in Antonio Conte’s back three and have the money to spend after qualifying for the Champions League.
It looks like United are leading the race at the moment though, and Tottenham may face disappointment over Torres for the second summer in a row.
