Daily Star journalist Paul Brown has told Give Me Sport that Harry Winks was ready to leave Tottenham and join Everton in a previous window, and is also keen on a move this time around.
Winks, 26, has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Antonio Conte. The Italian has made two midfield signings since joining, in Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma. He is now the club’s fifth-choice midfielder.
Indeed, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp sit above the England international. Tottenham confirmed that alongside Gio Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon, Winks is not on the tour of South Korea.

Reports have linked both Everton and Leeds with a move – but the Whites have since landed USA international Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig. Brown says Winks is desperate to join Everton, and would have done so in a previous window.
“Winks is very keen to come and would have agreed to sign for Everton in a previous window. He seems to like the project there and would fit possibly quite well into Lampard’s system,” Brown said.
“But the two clubs are a way apart because for Everton, ideally in the same way they did with Dele Alli, spreading the cost into another financial year would be ideal for them, but Spurs want the money now.”

Clearly, Winks knew that his time at Tottenham was up even before this summer. The signing of Uruguay international Bentancur immediately saw Winks drop down the order, with Conte preferring a two-man midfield.
Everton, meanwhile, need a midfielder. Donny van de Beek has returned to Manchester United. Allan could go, Andre Gomes is being linked with a move. Even if they stay, Everton need depth and Winks gives them that.
