Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has revealed that he has made a club-record contract offer to keep Kalidou Koulibaly with the Serie A side this summer despite interest from Tottenham.

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, the Italian official revealed that he has made an offer worth around €60m (£50m) in total to keep Koulibaly at Napoli, with the centre-back’s contract set to expire next year amid strong interest this summer from Tottenham and Juventus.

Koulibaly’s future has looked murky since the turn of the year, and this summer has seen rumours over a potential departure from Napoli accelerate, with Antonio Conte interested in signing the defender and Juventus now eyeing the centre-back as a replacement for Matthijs De Ligt.

Indeed, the Senegal international is one of the best defenders in world football and is only just hitting his prime, which explains why so many clubs are chasing Koulibaly, who could be a sensational signing for many sides this summer if they can break Napoli down.

However, despite interest, the Serie A side are desperate to keep Koulibaly this summer, with the club’s sporting director revealing that he has offered a record contract to the 30-year-old defender in an attempt to keep him in the south of Italy.

Giuntoli said about the contract offer for Napoli’s star defender: “Koulibaly is key player for us. There’s no bid from any club. We’ve offered him new deal for €6m net salary per season plus future role as part of the board. It’s a huge proposal, €60m gross for Napoli, Koulibaly deserves it all”.

Koulibaly has been a loyal servant for Napoli over the year, and this huge contract proposal from the club is a huge statement from the Serie A side who look keen to keep hold of their centre-back titan this summer, and the plan could work.

Indeed, Koulibaly is a modern Napoli cult hero who could be tempted by a new mega-contract as well as the captaincy to stay in the south of Italy, and whilst a move to Tottenham or Juventus would be tempting, this newest offer is arguably the perfect result for the Senegal star.
