Michael Bridge has told Give Me Sport that Everton have informed Tottenham to cool their interest in Anthony Gordon – amid reports that Newcastle are planning a £35million move for the England Under-21 international.

Gordon, 21, has been in magnificent form over the past 12 months – enjoying a brilliant season on a personal level, even if Everton struggled. He played 40 times in all competitions for Everton, under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard.

Reports today state that Newcastle want to sign Gordon for £35million. Previous claims state that Tottenham were even in talks to land Gordon in an £85million double deal for Gordon and Richarlison. The latter has since joined Spurs.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Bridge delivers an update. He says he has been informed Everton have told Tottenham to cool their interest in Gordon this summer, as they desperately strive to keep their academy product.

“Tottenham are very, very keen on him. I don’t know this for certain, but someone’s told me that Everton have asked Tottenham to cool their interest in Gordon, at least for now,” Sky Sports reporter Bridge told GMS.

A move to Tottenham would not be beneficial for Gordon. Yes, Spurs are selling Steven Bergwijn, but they have also brought in Richarlison. The likelihood is, they will have Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski as cover out wide.

Of course, Antonio Conte would want another attacker as cover with Richarlison also backing up Harry Kane. But for Gordon, he needs to keep playing football and where better to do that than at his boyhood club. He is first choice.
