Newcastle United are considering a move to sign Everton wonderkid and Tottenham Hotspur target Anthony Gordon this summer – Alan Shearer branded him “fearless” during analysis of the Toffees talent last season.
Gordon, 21, came into the campaign with just 20 Everton appearances at senior level – returning from a loan spell at Preston. But the England Under-21 star clocked up 40 appearances during 2021-22, having a hand in seven goals.
It was not Gordon’s end product, but his passion, determination and work rate that caught the eye. Everton fans have really taken to their academy product, largely because of his energy and the never-say-die attitude in his displays.
Gordon is a target for Tottenham this summer – with the playmaker boasting a value of £25million. However, Newcastle have thrown their hat into the ring for a player Toon legend Shearer said is “fearless” and willing to get “stuck in”.
“Gordon has shown passion and plenty of ability,” Shearer told the PL’s YouTube channel. “I’ve been impressed by his fearless attitude. He gets stuck in. He tries to make things happen, putting plenty of crosses into the box.”
Newcastle considering Gordon: Shearer branded him ‘fearless’
What a signing Gordon would be, at £25million. Everton are under less pressure to sell after cashing in on Richarlison. The Brazilian has joined Spurs for £60million in total, easing concerns regarding Financial Fairplay.
But if Gordon remains available for £25million, then Newcastle and Spurs have got to be looking. Which move would be better for him? Newcastle need a right winger and he would start. He would not start at Spurs.
However, Antonio Conte’s side have more games on offer after qualifying for the Champions League. For Gordon, he needs regular game time to continue his upward surge. Staying at Everton or joining Newcastle would see him do that.
