Everton are in talks for Rodrigo Becao but are currently some distance away from reaching Udinese’s asking price for the defender.

Everton confirmed their first signing of the summer window on Saturday, unveiling James Tarkowski as a Toffee.

Most fans knew that deal was on the cards some time ago, but Tarkowski provides a major boost to Everton’s back line.

Tarkowski will now compete with the likes of Michael Keane, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey at Everton.

Yet could there still be another defensive addition to come this summer?

Everton are in talks for Rodrigo Becao

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio now reports that Everton are in negotiations to sign Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao.

The Mirror reported in June that contact had been made but it now seems that Everton are going further by chasing a deal for Becao.

It’s stated that these is a real distance between the valuations of Everton and Udinese as things stand and a deal is not considered to be close.

TuttoUdinese claimed that Becao was valued at around £17million with Tottenham Hotspur also keen on signing the Brazilian.

Tottenham seem to be focusing on Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet instead right now, meaning Everton could be in the clear for Becao.

Another Tottenham note here is that Everton have just sold Richarlison to Spurs, so may have more room for new signings.

Becao, 26, stands at 6ft 3in tall and mostly operated as part of a back three last season.

Powerful and strong in the air, Becao is a solid defender but there will be concerns over his pace and whether he could be exposed in the Premier League.

£17million is far too much for Everton to be paying for Becao, especially when they already have five centre backs in their ranks.

If Udinese stick to their price tag, Everton should absolutely walk away and look to spend that Richarlison money elsewhere.
