Unfortunately for Arsenal, there appears to be a serious risk of Tottenham Hotspur hijacking their interest in Gabriel Jesus.
The Manchester City hitman is being chased by Arsenal and has been for a number of months.
However, Tottenham lodged a £40 million offer for the Brazil international last week.
According to The Sun, the Gunners were prepared to offer the Citizen some £190,000 per week to join the Emirates Stadium outfit.
But there’s no doubt that Spurs – who pipped Arsenal to Champions League qualification on the final day of the Premier League season – represent a serious threat.
But there’s been a promising update from Italy this morning.
According to Calciomercato, Mikel Arteta and Edu will step up their interest in the 25-year-old and the club are planning to meet with Gabriel’s people this week to get a ‘definitive answer’ from the striker, who scored 13 goals for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.
Could Tottenham hijack the Gabriel Jesus move?
In a word, yes.
Obviously Arsenal need a striker, having just lost Alexandre Lacazette on a Bosman.
And even though Spurs have Harry Kane and Son Heung-min as striking options, a lack of plan-b option for the Lilywhites down the years has cost them.
For years they’ve been one injury to Kane away from all-out disaster and Antonio Conte will want insurance against that eventuality next season, with the North Londoners back in the Champions League.
Plus, according to Bloomberg, Tottenham received a £150 million injection from their owners last month.
They have the means and motive to want to hijack Arsenal’s interest and hopefully for the Gunners, this apparent meeting over the coming days can yield success.
