Leeds United have already begun the process of strengthening their squad this summer with the signing of Brenden Aaronson, and if reports are to be believed, a new striker could be on his way.

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Leeds United have their eye on an unnamed striker from the Premier League, and while we can’t say for sure who it is, a bit of jigsaw identification can be done to deduce a few possible targets.

Let’s be honest, Leeds aren’t going to be in for Harry Kane or Cristiano Ronaldo, nor are they going to be chasing someone who won’t provide value for money or a marked improvement on what they already have.

We’re probably looking at either an out-of-favour striker from a top club – such as Michy Batshuayi, who has been linked, or an attainable mid-table striker such as Kelechi Iheanacho.

While there are many possible targets, in our view, the striker that would make the most sense for Leeds to target is Che Adams.

The ‘powerful’ 25-year-old has been ever-improving in the Premier League, and he’s been on Leeds’ radar in the past.

Indeed, during the Whites’ promotion season, Leeds were very keen on the Southampton forward, and while Marcelo Bielsa has since left the club, Victor Orta likely remains a fan of Adams.

Now that the Scotland international has proven himself at Premier League level, he’d be a fantastic addition, and with Jesse Marsch’s preferred 4-2-2-2 utilising a striker partnership, Adams would be a great fit. After all, the 25-year-old plays his best football when paired with another striker, be that Lukasz Jutkiewicz at Birmingham City or Danny Ings at Saints.

In fact, Adams would be a great fit for Marsch’s style. He’s currently starring under Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton, and with Marsch also being a graduate of the Red Bull school of coaching, there will be plenty of transferrable skills that Adams could bring to Leeds and Marsch’s system.

Adams is a player Orta has looked at before, he’s a player who would fit in tactically at Leeds, and he’s attainable.

Don’t be surprised if this mystery striker turns out to be Adams.
