According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham have discussed a move for Yannick Carrasco, with Newcastle also keen to bring the Belgian to the Premier League.

What’s the story?

Well, the Atlético Madrid No.21 was a target for both Spurs and the Magpies in January, although a move failed to materialise.

Now, Tottenham have internally discussed another move for the 28-year-old, who had a £50m release clause in January.

Diego Simeone is said to be expecting an offer from Newcastle, whereas Tottenham’s interest seems to be less intense.

The Evening Standard believe Spurs are mainly targeting Eintracht Frankfurt gem Filip Kostic or Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

However, Carrasco has also been discussed in N17.

In 44 appearances this season, the Belgium international scored six goals, while also providing seven assists from a wing-back position.

If Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici do end up signing Carrasco, he is expected to line up on the left.

In our view, Tottenham should only sign Carrasco if they are unable to sign Kostic, who is the superior player – in our view, at least.

The 29-year-old has just enjoyed a stunning season playing as a wing-back for Eintracht Frankfurt, helping the German side beat Rangers to the Europa League.

Impressively, Kostic was named Europa League Player of the Season by UEFA, which is quite the accomplishment.

Interestingly, Tottenham actually scouted him in the final against Rangers.

In 43 appearances across all competitions, the Serbian scored seven goals, while also providing an eye-catching 15 assists.

22 goal involvements from wing-back is no easy thing to achieve, so Spurs could soon be signing a real gem, one who has been likened to Gareth Bale.

Keep an eye on developments at Tottenham this summer, as we’d be very surprised if a new wing-back didn’t arrive.
