Foot Mercato report that numerous Premier League clubs including Newcastle and Tottenham are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco on deadline day – and are ready to pay his £50million exit clause.
Carrasco, 28, remains a crucial part of Diego Simeone’s side, playing 29 times in all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season. But the Belgium star is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League at this stage.
Yet to play in England, Carrasco is expected to cost a huge amount of money. He has a contract until 2024 at Atleti and Simeone’s men are under no pressure to sell. Nevertheless, talks have been held for Carrasco.
Foot Mercato claim a deadline-day move is not out of the question with Newcastle and Tottenham pushing – with both ready to activate his release clause. But a summer move is touted as being much more likely.
Newcastle, Tottenham eye Carrasco: Stunning deadline-day signing
Carrasco would be a wonderful signing for either club. Indeed, strangely, Newcastle and Tottenham are both in need of a right winger. Both have a superb option in the left in Allan Saint-Maximin and Son Heung-min.
Up top, no one is replacing Harry Kane, while Newcastle are expected to add to their striker ranks on deadline day – despite already boasting Chris Wood and Callum Wilson. But on the right, both lack a long-term option.
Tottenham are about to complete the signing of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus and he could be a long-term option on the right. But right now, Carrasco massively improves Spurs – and certainly improves Newcastle.
