Roy Keane hit it out Aston Villa for the ‘softness’ to their game, after Manchester City’s stunning comeback on the final day of the Premier League season.

Villa had the chance to spoil Man City’s Premier League title party by providing Liverpool with a helping hand on the final day of the season.

With a Liverpool legend in Steven Gerrard in the dugout, many were dreaming of that fantasy moment, mainly those from Merseyside.

But when Philippe Coutinho put Villa 2-0 up in the second-half, it would have shocked many far and wide because the unthinkable was happening.

However, there is a reason this Manchester City side is a relentless machine and they proved that with one of the comebacks to lift the title.

Manchester City deserve all the plaudits for the season they have had, but Keane, speaking to Sky Sports Premier League, didn’t like what he saw from Villa.

“To be fair to this Man City group over the years, they do keep going until the end,” said Keane.

“De Bruyne turned on the magic, in the end. When they got the first goal, you felt it, the momentum was back with Man City.

“When you are 2-0 down, and you know you need three goals to win the league, it’s a long way back. Outstanding. All credit to Man City – all the brilliant teams find a way to win.

“You have to be critical of Villa as well. You are 2-0 up. There is a softness to this Villa team, that’s why they have lost so many games.”

For Villa, it’s about picking themselves up and building for next season under Steven Gerrard.

It has been a season to forget, it started with Dean Smith, but it ends with Gerrard hoping to guide the club into Europe.

It’s not going to be an easy task because of the teams ahead of them and those who also have ambition around them.

But it is pretty clear that added quality is needed if this Villa side wants to challenge for those top-six places.
