Philippe Coutinho has posted on Instagram that Aston Villa didn’t get the result they wanted, as Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

Before the game, many were already writing the scripts, a Liverpool legend in Steven Gerrard in the dugout and Coutinho out on the pitch to deliver the goods and have a say in who wins the title.

Matty Cash stunned the Manchester City crowd when he headed Villa into the lead, before the pre-drama noise became reality when Coutinho doubled his side’s lead in the second half.

The cheers could be heard from Merseyside as, at the time, Liverpool only needed one more goal against Wolves and the Premier League title was theirs.

Whilst the Reds did the job against Wolves, in the end, it was another dramatic final day story for Man City as they mounted a stunning comeback to win a fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

After the game, Coutinho sent the following message to fans, as Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino, issued a wordless response to his former teammate by posting hands raised emoji in the comments section.

The Villa players will be kicking themselves that they capitulated in such a fashion, but it’s time to move on because it hasn’t been a season to shout about.

Europe will be the aim for the Midlands side next season, and with Coutinho signed up for the long term, they can now lure the top players to the club.

Coutinho is going to be at the heart of it all, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if a few Villa players, that played yesterday, have played their last game in the Claret and Blue colours.

Gerrard is going to make the changes, build his own spine, and perhaps bring in a few more proven players and then the club can properly move forward.
