Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Tottenham target Jack Harrison from Leeds and Alan Shearer is a fan. The Toon legend once raved about Harrison’s crossing ability, in September 2020.
Harrison, 25, has been in stunning form for Leeds during 2021-22, amassing his best goalscoring campaign since joining in 2018 for £11m (BBC). He scored 10 goals, including a hat-trick against West Ham United in January.
Leeds secured Premier League survival on Sunday with a superb away win over Brentford. Harrison netted the winner, lashing home an effort from the best part of 25 yards out. Newcastle and Tottenham are interested.
Harrison is about to enter the final two years of his contract, and the report does state he is open to an Elland Road exit. Shearer praised the uncapped Englishman in 2020, saying his delivery from out wide is “fantastic”.
“Harrison swung in a perfect cross for Patrick Bamford’s winning header. In fact his crosses were fantastic throughout as he continued his impressive start to his PL career,” Shearer said, after a win over Sheffield United.
Shearer a fan of Newcastle target Harrison: Best move for Leeds ace?
The lure of Tottenham in the Champions League will be massive for Harrison, if Spurs are genuinely considering an offer. But he will know that he is only second choice to Son Heung-min, if he is even that.
Harrison, of course, is also capable of playing as a left wing-back and Sergio Reguilon could go. Newcastle have Matt Targett, who is likely to sign, and Allan Saint-Maximin. He would struggle to displace either of those.
Staying at Leeds is arguably his best move with the club set to spend big in the summer in an attempt to avoid another relegation scrap. But Spurs will be tempting and there will be opportunities for Harrison.
