According to Bild, Bayern Munich tried to sign Erling Haaland before he moved to the Premier League with Manchester City.

In doing so, the Bundesliga giants upset Robert Lewandowski, who is believed to be a target for Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, the Poland international is apparently available for £33m this summer, with his contract set to expire in June 2023.

Contract talks were already stalling, and Bild believe Lewandowski now wants to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season after attempts were made to replace him with Haaland.

The German news outlet reveal that Bayern Munich tried to sign the Norwegian wonderkid right up until the final moment, before it became apparent he was joining Pep Guardiola in the Premier League.

Now, while Manchester City are getting a striker with 85 goals in 88 games for Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool could end up with someone more prolific in Lewandowski, after Bayern Munich upset the 33-year-old.

Liverpool should sign Robert Lewandowski

Even if it’s just for one season, Liverpool should reunite Lewandowski with Klopp at Anfield.

The German has previously said that the Polish marksman is the best player he’s ever coached, and he’s become even better since the pair went their separate ways.

So far this season, Lewandowski has remarkably scored 49 goals in 45 appearances, while also providing seven assists.

It takes his tally for Bayern Munich to an astounding 343 goals in just 373 appearances, which is a quite phenomenal record, to say the least.

Of course, you may question where Lewandowski fits in at Liverpool, as Klopp already has the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino.

However, a player like Lewandowski doesn’t become available often, so we believe the Reds should submit a bid – especially if Salah refuses to sign a new contract.
