Southampton are now facing competition from Premier League rivals Leicester City to sign Chukwubuike Junior Adamu from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.
In the last two years, Salzburg have sold Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino, Josko Gvardiol, Dominik Szoboszlai and Hwang-Hee Chan. Germany international Karim Adayemi, meanwhile, looks set to follow in Haaland’s footsteps, all the way to Dortmund.
Adamu’s growing list of suitors, then, should be confident that a deal for the 20-year-old forward can be reached over the summer, given Salzburg’s track record when it comes to cashing in on their most exciting young talent.
That’s just how they do things at the Red Bull Arena. Buy low, sell high, recruit and replace. Out went Haaland, in came Patson Daka. When Daka left for Leicester in a £23 million deal last summer, Adeyemi was promoted in his place.
So, if Adamu does go, you can bet your bottom dollar that Salzburg will have a successor in mind.
Southampton’s new Sadio Mane?
The Nigeria-born Austria international has scored seven goals this season for the runaway Austrian Bundesliga leaders. Including a ruthless edge-of-the-box strike in the recent 1-1 Champions League round-of-16 draw with Bayern Munich.
According to Mail, the £15 million-rated Adamu could join Daka at Leicester. A Southampton side who signed Sadio Mane from Salzburg nearly a decade ago are interested too.
As are Monaco, Marseille and a handful of Bundesliga clubs.
Salzburg are also facing a fight as they look to hang onto teenager Benjamin Sesko, while USA playmaker Brenden Aaronson could soon be reunited with Jesse Marsch at Leeds United.

The Elland Road club offered £15 million for Aaronson in January (Athletic).
“I’m just glad (Marsch) got a job there (in the Premier League)!,”Aaronson says. “I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he performs well with Leeds.
“I take things day by day and day by day means I’m here now.
“I want to win the league and the cup again, that’s my current goal and whatever happens in summer happens in summer.”
