Lyon coach Peter Bosz believes he’s beaten Premier League trio Southampton, Everton and West Ham United to a ‘special player’ in Brazilian winger Tete, speaking to the Ligue 1 club’s official website.

That’s what Bosz will be asking for from now on after the former Shakhtar Donetsk forward began his Lyon career in the best possible way this weekend.
2021/22 is already the most prolific campaign of Tete’s life thus far. And, after scoring ten times for Shakhtar, he netted his first for Les Gones just moments after coming off the bench in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Angers, whipping an inch-perfect, 80th minute winner into the bottom corner.
Everton and a West Ham side who will face Lyon in the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday wanted Tete too (90Min).
If Sunday’s debut is anything to go by, Lyon’s gain is the Saints’ loss.
‘Special’ Tete
“Tete is a special player,” says Bosz, the former Dortmund and Ajax coach.
“I have known him for a long time and I was surprised to see that a player like Tete was signed by OL. Normally, this kind of player is unattainable for OL.”
Lyon were certainly given a helping hand by Ligue 1.
The Premier League decided against allowing players based in Russia and Ukraine to move to England outside of the transfer window – scuppering Wolves’ attempts to bring in Pedrinho from Shakhtar – but there were no such restrictions on the other side of the Channel.

Tete signed a short-term deal with Lyon until July. He will receive a longer contract in the summer.
“The sad situation in Ukraine helped us but you have to know that time is very short,” Bosz adds. “We don’t have much time left because in six weeks the season is over.”
