Newcastle United have now joined the race for Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur January transfer target Nahitan Nandez, according to Tuttosport.

Tuttosport are reporting that Newcastle made initial contact regarding signing Nandez from Cagliari a few weeks ago.

The report in the Italian publication has claimed that Newcastle are a ‘new entry’ in the race for the 26-year-old Uruguay international midfielder.

Calciomercato reported in December that Leeds and Tottenham are interested in signing Nandez in the January transfer window,

Earlier this month, CagliariNews24 reported that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are leading the race for the Cagliari midfielder.

Could Newcastle United sign Nahitan Nandez?

In our view, Newcastle could struggle to sign Nandez from Cagliari in the January transfer window.

Now, of course, we know that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) are rich and can throw money.

However, would Nandez be willing to move to a club who could relegated to the Championship at the end of the season?

Cagliari themselves are in the bottom three of Serie A.

So, why would the Uruguayan swap a relegation-threatened side for another, especially in another league?

It is very likely that Nandez would wait until the summer of 2022 and then hope for several offers.
