Liverpool didn’t do much in the summer transfer window, but at one point, it looked as though they were closing in on the signing of Florian Neuhaus.
The German midfielder was strongly linked with a move to Anfield in the summer. German journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed on numerous occasions that the Reds had been in contact with his agents, while AS Sport stated that everything pointed towards a deal being done in the summer.
However, for one reason or another, the Reds backed away from the move, and it looks as though their decision was justified.
Indeed, it’s fair to say that Neuhaus isn’t exactly lighting the Bundesliga up this season.
In fact, he can hardly get a game for Borussia Monchengladbach these days.
He’s been completely left on the bench five times this season, and he’s actually only started two league matches since September.
Strangely, Neuhaus’ form hasn’t actually been that bad statistically. He’s even scored three goals in his last four appearances, but for some reason, Adi Hutter hasn’t been fancying the German as of late – he’s played just 295 minutes since September, which is just 27.3 per cent of the possible minutes he could have played during that period.
Neuhaus is certainly not getting the minutes you’d expect from a player who was strongly linked with one of the best teams in Europe in the summer, and it will be interesting to see how the remainder of the season pans out for the 24-year-old as it looks as though his development has gone off the rails a little bit.
