Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their chase for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to TalkSPORT.
Johnstone to Tottenham?
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is currently on the look out for alternative options for Hugo Lloris, as they plan to add more competition for a place between the sticks.
Lloris’s contract at Spurs is due to expire at the end of the season and although Conte wants to keep his captain around, there is a feeling that Tottenham will need to replace him in time.
As a result their interest in Johnstone is apparently picking up ahead of the January transfer window opening.
Johnstone would reportedly be keen on a move to the Premier League, as he wants to go to the World Cup with England.
Although he is playing regularly at Championship level with West Brom, following their relegation last season, he will receive greater exposure in the top flight.
Johnstone proved his ability to play in the Premier League last year too.

The 28-year-old was outstanding despite West Brom’s struggles and it was rather surprising when he wasn’t snapped up in the summer.
Sam Allardyce is among Johnstone’s big admirers and described him as ‘top quality’ recently in an interview with Sport Bible.
If he was to arrive at Tottenham it seems most likely that he would play a reserve role initially.
Lloris has been in superb form for Spurs recently and only seems to be getting stronger with age.
But there will come a time when Lloris has to take a back seat due to his advancing years and by getting Johnstone in place now, Tottenham would have the best chance at making a smooth transition when the World Cup winner does need to be replaced.
