Rangers are eyeing an ambitious swoop for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as they look to challenge Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
TEAMtalk report that Rangers are studying Johnstone’s situation and could offer a pre-contract agreement in January.
Three Premier League clubs also want to sign Johnstone; Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris is out of contract at the end of the season and Johnstone is seen as a cheap alternative.
West Ham and Newcastle are both considering their goalkeeping options, with Johnstone a cheap target.
Johnstone, 28, is entering the final six months of his West Brom deal and has so far snubbed an extension.
Rangers have the pre-contract advantage here; they can offer a pre-contract deal to Johnstone given that they are a non-English club.

Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham won’t be able to do that, so we could see Rangers make a big push in January.
Johnstone, an England international, has been branded ‘outstanding’ by Glenn Hoddle and seems to be preparing himself for a move away.
Rangers could now offer a move to Ibrox, with Johnstone possibly primed to become the long-term successor to Allan McGregor in an exciting switch.
