Poland star Kacper Kozlowski should stay at Pogon Szczencin and turn down a move to Premier League clubs Liverpool and Brighton, team-mate Kamil Grosicki tells Interia.
Grosicki is not the only one who thinks the so-called ‘new Kevin de Bruyne’ would benefit from sticking around for a while longer.
None other than Robert Lewandowski – arguably the greatest footballer in the history of the Polish national team – admitted in November that he had encouraged Kozlowski to stay put at the Stadion Miejski.
The gifted attacking midfielder is just 18, after all, three years younger than Lewandowski was when he swapped Lech Poznan for Borussia Dortmund a decade ago.
The self-confident, single-minded Kozlowski appears to have his own ideas, however.
Pogon Szczencin’s director of football admitted this week that the club’s prized asset was ‘in talks’ regarding a potential January switch to a Premier League club.
Lewandowski’s words of advice, it seems, have fallen on deaf ears.
Brighton are interested but Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool appear to be leading the race after putting forward an offer in the region of £10 million (Sport Express).
Should Kacper Kozlowski have reservations about Liverpool move?
“Kacper is a young player and he is on fire,” says Grosicki, the former Hull City and West Brom winger.
“I talked to Kacper and told him that I would like him to stay for another six months because he is important to Pogon.”
Pogon Szczencin are currently second in the Ekstraklasa table, dreaming of a first domestic title in their 73-year history.
Kozlowski is one of the first names on the team-sheet too and it’s certainly hard to imagine the teenager playing a similar role in Liverpool’s own title charge if he leaves for Anfield next month.
“I don’t know how (this situation) ends and I don’t really have any influence on it,” Grosicki adds.
“When I hear that he could be leaving for England before being loaned out to some other league, I wonder why he can’t finish his season at Pogon.
“I wish Kacper the best because he is a great footballer and a really cool, cheerful young man. From the point of view of Pogon, it would be best if he stayed for the next six months because this team is fighting for something.”
Dariusz Adamczuk, Pogon’s director, claimed on Tuesday that Kozlowski will soon become the most expensive export in the club’s history.
