Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told BBC Sport that he hopes to play against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Tottenham have not played a competitive game since December 5 due to coronavirus-related issues.

Spurs have had their games against Rennes, Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City postponed.

Liverpool have been playing normally and got the better of Newcastle United at Anfield in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

The Reds will take on Tottenham away from home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

And Klopp hopes that the match goes ahead.

Jurgen Klopp on Tottenham v Liverpool

Klopp told BBC Sport: “I don’t see the massive benefit of it [stopping the Premier League] because we come back {and] it is still the same.

“If the virus will be gone then I am the first that stops and goes home and waits until it is gone. But that is probably not the case, so where’s the real benefit of it?

“We hope we can play and Tottenham can play on Sunday.”

Big game

As football fans, we would love the Premier League game between Tottenham and Liverpool to go ahead.

Of course, the authorities have to make sure that there are no coronavirus risks.

But, if everything is fine and there are no Covid-related issues, then we think that the match should go ahead.

We find it really encouraging to see that Klopp wants the match to go ahead.

We know that Liverpool have a busy festive schedule, but Klopp still seems intent of playing.

Liverpool are going strong in the Premier League and will certainly want to maintain their momentum.
