Steve McManaman has said on BT Sport 1 (9:20pm, December 16, 2021) that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah looked frustrated when Jurgen Klopp took him off against Newcastle United at Anfield.

The former Liverpool star noted that Salah was not happy that manager Klopp decided to take off him in the second half against Newcastle.

Salah started the Premier League match against Newcastle at Anfield on Thursday evening.

And, as you would expect, the Egypt international forward scored.

However, Liverpool boss Klopp decided to take off Salah in the 74th minute and brought on Roberto Firmino.

McManaman said during his commentary on BT Sport: “Not happy, Mo Salah. Brilliant first-half performance. Little bit frustrated that he is coming off as he feels that he can score more goals.”

Sensible from Klopp on Salah

In our view, it was sensible from Klopp to take off Salah in the second half against Newcastle.

Liverpool were in control of the game at the time.

It did not look likely that Newcastle would score.

And they did not.

Liverpool have a busy festive period coming up, and Klopp cannot afford to have his best attacking players injured or tired.

Now, we know how determined and hungry Salah is to score goals all the time.

But, on this occasion, we agree with Klopp’s decision to take off Salah.

Salah has scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 17 Premier League matches for Liverpool so far this season.
