Arsenal have made an approach for Benfica boss Jorge Jesus, as they search for potential replacements for Mikel Arteta, Tore Dorces say

Jesus to Arsenal?

Arteta is set to remain in place at Arsenal for the time being, but the latest reports suggest that the Gunners board may not be entirely convinced that his job is safe for the long term.

As a result they are apparently looking for future successors, with Jesus sounded out over taking the role.

The Benfica manager would reportedly be interested in the Arsenal job too, as he has always wanted to manage in England.

Would Jesus be a good appointment?

Now, Arsenal’s apparent move for Jesus may not be reason to panic for Arteta just yet.

But it does highlight the need for the Gunners to improve this season.

Arsenal have shown signs of quality and promise under Arteta, but their lack of consistency has been a frustration.

Currently they sit just outside the top four, although they have games in hand over Tottenham Hotspur and there are fears that Manchester United could catch them under new management.

If Arsenal were to turn to Jesus he would still be a risky appointment.

Although he possesses far more experience than Arteta – having been in management since 1990 – he has never taken charge in England before.

He has at least been called ‘unbelievable’ by Jurgen Klopp, which is never a bad endorsement, and has won four league titles in Portugal and Brazil

But Arsenal would be the biggest team he has ever taken charge of, if he was to get the job, and there would be no guarantee of success.
