Everton are exploring a potential transfer for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram, but face competition from Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, per Calciomercato.

Inter have held a strong interest in the forward in recent markets, and continue to consider taking him to Italy. But BVB could rival the Nerazzurri in any attempt to prise the 24-year-old from Borussia-Park to keep him in Germany.

Thuram caught Inter’s eye last season with a strong 11-goal, 12-assist campaign under now Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose. The 45-year-old left Die Fohlen for BVB at the end of last term, but has maintained his appreciation of Thuram.

Everton are also now admirers of Thuram, it seems, even though the versatile forward has rarely featured for Borussia Monchengladbach. He sustained a Medial Collateral Ligament tear in his right knee during his first start of the season in August.

The four-cap France international has not featured since the 20th-minute against Bayer Leverkusen, following a 26-minute cameo against Bayern Munich on the opening day.

Inter retain summer transfer interest in Everton target Thuram

Inter were ready to sign Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, but fell just short of the Bundesliga side’s valuation. Calciomercato reported the Nerazzurri prepared a €25m (£21m) offer, however Die Fohlen wanted no less than €30m (£25.5m).

Tottenham Hotspur also explored Thuram’s situation at Borussia-Park in the off-season. L’Equipe claimed their Managing Director Fabio Paratici spoke regularly with the forward’s agent, Mino Raiola. Foot Mercato also touted the 24-year-old as one of Spurs’ top targets, while noting the dynamic attacker wanted a change of scenery.

A persistent knee injury may have scuppered Tottenham’s interest in the Frenchman this summer before turning to alternative options. But their loss could be Everton’s gain, if they can edge Borussia Dortmund and continued interest from Inter in a transfer for Thuram.

Should Everton sign Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach?

Everton would likely face the same valuation for Thuram that Borussia Monchengladbach set Inter Milan during the last transfer window. While the Frenchman has only managed to play 46-minutes altogether so far this term, he showed his potential last season.

Rose deployed his former star attacker across the Fohlen frontline, with goals and assists following in each position. Thuram’s first-half stoppage-time strike at Stuttgart in February also set Monchengladbach up to win their DFB-Pokal Last 16 tie 2-1. While also scoring twice against Real Madrid in the Champions League to draw 2-2 at home to the Galacticos.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also compared Thuram, who is under contract until 2023, with Thierry Henry last year. He told Der Spiegel: “Technically, he [Henry] could do everything. However there is one player in the Bundesliga who reminds me of him: Marcus Thuram at Borussia Monchengladbach.”
