Inter Milan are considering signing rumoured Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United target Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg to replace Romelu Lukaku, per Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Nerazzurri have already brought Edin Dzeko in from Roma to help replace the goals the Belgian provided last season. But the Serie A champions hope to further strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s offensive weaponry before the market closes on August 31.
Weghorst is the latest name Inter Chairman Giuseppe Marotta has added to his attacking shortlist. He is also assessing moves within the Italian top-flight for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata and Lazio forward Joaquin Correa.

Wolfsburg are likely to value Weghorst in the region of just €15m-20m (£13m-£17m) if he leaves the Bundesliga this summer. The 29-year-old has two years left on his contract at the Volkswagen Arena, and has attracted significant interest in England.
Reports by the Express in July claimed Tottenham had joined the race to sign Weghorst from Wolfsburg. The north Londoners have retained an interest for the past year, after Technical Performance Director Steve Hitchen first put the Dutchman forward as a target.
But The Athletic report West Ham and Newcastle also admire Weghorst, giving Inter Milan a lot of competition if they move to rival Tottenham and co for the Wolfsburg star. And a fee in the region of £15m will certainly appeal to striker hungry Premier League sides.
Weghorst has already opened his account for the new season with two goals in two games. His strike against last term’s Bundesliga 2 champions Bochum sealed a 1-0 win for Mark van Bommel’s side on Saturday. Slotting home a tidy finish from 11-yards out, while keeping Manuel Riemann busy in the visiting goal all game.
Inter to rival Tottenham and West Ham for ‘dynamic’ Weghorst?
Weghorst was one of the stars of the Bundesliga last season to attract Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle’s attention, and now earn Inter Milan’s interest as well. The £58,000-per-week frontman lashed home 20 times and offered nine assists in 34 appearances.
He added a further five goals to his record in the cups, too, before scoring his first for the Netherlands. Weghorst opened his international account against Georgia on the eve of Euro 2020, and struck once at the tournament.
Michel Vlap also effusively praised Weghorst in March before the striker secured a return to the Netherlands side. He told ESPN’s Goede morgen Oranje, via CCEIT: “I find Weghorst a bit more dynamic [than Luuk de Jong]. He has become more skilled on the ball and has an unbelievable drive. Physically, he’s started to arm himself more, he’s also more technical.”
